Since the weather outside is frightful for much of the United States, I thought this would be the perfect time to do a Three Cool Things for staying mobile whether you’re on the road or off. These things will certainly help keep you going in the event you are stuck.

While there are many different types of off-road recovery tools available, here I focused on just a few key pieces of equipment that would help if you are marooned with another vehicle to help with your recovery.

  1. Maxtrax MKII – $599 – The one tool you might need to get out of any situation is a good set up recovery boards. They can be inserted under your tires for immediate traction and they can also double as a shovel if you need to do some digging. Made of  UV stabilized, flexible, super tough engineering-grade reinforced nylon, these recovery boards are also a symbol in the world of overland that you are a part of the community. Wear them proud on your roof rack or rear tire mount for all others to see.
  2. Warn Receiver and Shackle – $50 – Having a rear recovery point that you have confidence in on your vehicle will be invaluable for recovery situations. Utilizes a standard Class III receiver hitch as a recovery point for off-road us.
  3.  ARB Recovery Strap – $81.00 – This 24,000 lbs snatch strap, from trusted off-road brand ARB, will get you out of most jams, assuming you’re with another vehicle :). Excellent for overlanding situation or when you come across that person who had a little too much confidence in their abilities in the snow.
