THREE COOL THINGS

By Paul Strubell of Dirt Orcas – 6/2/17

This edition of Three Cool things is all about simplifying your camp experience. If you are overlanding in a car or van, your camp set up often includes many of the luxuries of home.

However, if you are adventure riding on your motorcycle you still may want to bring things like a camp stove, chair, and some of the other comforts of home, space is far more limited. The items you choose become precious. Their weight and size matter.

Here are three things I recommend that help bring all the comfort of home but delivered in a very small package. Making them the perfect addition to your bike camping kit.

  1. MSR PocketRocket 2 Camp Stove – $44.95 – These little champions pack down smaller than an 8 oz can of soda and can easily handle your individual cooking needs. Love this product for its simplicity and tiny design. If you want to save some money there is a Chinese knock off that I have seen in action and it seems to be just as small and effective,  but of course, you won’t have the MSR brand standing behind it if something comes up.
  2. Therm-A-Rest Treo Chair – $66.17 – A comfortable champ chair that will hold up to 250lbs and packs down to the size of a 1980’s cell phone. Sign me up.
  3. Trekology Folding Camping Picnic Table – $27.99 – You don’t need this. At all. You’re a rough and tumble adventurer who scoffs at excess and luxury. BUT… if you have a little extra room in those saddlebags you may want to bring it. It works as a table, has built in drink holders, and works a great foot rest to pair with your camp chair when you are ready to kick your feet up.
