Current River float and camp with Cole and @lkblinger - Nothing but love for the crew, the great weather and the clear waters.

I also felt like a real hero when I chased an ambitious raccoon through the forest in the middle of the night who had run off with my life jacket. My car keys, wallet, and @garmin where all attached to the life vest.
I turn 42 tomorrow but still fast enough I guess 🦝🛶⛺️

Day three of @lkblinger and my trip was a bit more

Day three of @lkblinger and my trip was a bit more relaxed. After a hot cup of coffee and a cool morning staring at the lake, we opted to leave everything set up at camp and explore the surrounding lakes without the burden of all or gear.

Though this lake system was not our original plan, we found some beautiful views and made some wild friends along the way.

After being thwarted by ice on our first attempt,

After being thwarted by ice on our first attempt, we talked with some local outfitters and found a lake system that was ice free. We drove there, purchased new entry permits, and made our way into the Boundary Waters.

The new route contained long difficult portages. We met a few guys that had been doing BW trips for nearly 30 years and said they had never seen snow on portage trails, let alone deep snow. It’s a new reality I guess.

We were determined to press ahead and made our way to camp on Missing Link Lake for the night. We had sweet potatoes and stuffing with gravy for dinner.

The evening rolled in with a reminder that in this place the sites and sounds are completely unaccompanied by modern contributions.

@lkblinger and I recently headed up to the Boundary Waters for ice out. Day one presented some challenges as we couldn’t access our portage trail despite great efforts. We ended up retreating and regrouping at at the Flour Lake campground in the Superior National Forest.
